Models of Mother 3 – Camille Young Interview Prt 1.

The Work Of Camille Young.

The Work Of Camille Young.

Let me take a moment to give you a quick and brief background on the Mother 3 Fan Translation (See here for the full story). Mother 3 is the third game in the Earthbound  series from creator Shigesato Itoi. Originally set for release on the Super Famicom in 1994, it finally arrived in April 2006 (over a decade later) at which point the SNES was long gone and the Gameboy Advance became Mother 3′s eventual home. After 7 months of waiting patiently for word of an official release outside of Japan fans decided to take matters into their own hands through Do-It-Yourself Devotion.

Thanks Guys.

Upcoming Interview with Camille Young.

The Work of Camille Young.

The Work of Camille Young.

I’m pleased to announce that early next week I will be publishing KyozoKicks second interview with Camille Young (These interview are quickly becoming one of my favorite things to do – besides the shoes of course). For those who may be unaware, Camille is the artist / sculptor behind those amazing Mother 3 figures (a whopping 46 in total!) which found there way into the equally impressive, not to mention fan made – Mother 3 handbook.

Camille lets me know about how she became involved, the process and her feelings now the series has come to a close (not to mention what happened to them all!)

I hope you will pop back and read all about it, like my recent Jacob Patterson interview (still available here) it will be split into two parts which means more room for people to talk and more room for pictures!

New Converse Arrive On My Doorstep.

These shoes took a little longer to arrive then normal due to the long weekend we have had in the UK recently. Ive only had time to unpack the shoes and mess around with some sketches I made up whilst waiting for them to arrive.

This pair will eventually end up as a UK 10, Grim Fandango Purple Converse High-Top. I spent an age looking at Grim Fandango artwork, both official and fan made (DeviantArt seems to be a never ending source of inspiration) There were so many great pictures but I stumbled across a one of Manny Calavera that I kept coming back to, how could I use the picture as an inspiration but not blatantly rip it off?

After a couple hours of work which yielded absolutely nothing it hit me. KyozoKicks is not a website about my work and my work alone. It’s a place for all artists to show and talk about their work, hobby or passion. All these artist Ive been chatting to have served as such an inspiration, so supportive and have helped me out a ton. A high point for me would be to actually create things with these people, so rather than taking parts from the Grim Fandango piece I so admired I just asked the artist how she would feel about me using her design in my work, a collaboration. There was no convincing to be done, like so many others she immediately agreed to help me, May I take this moment to say thank you!

I’ll be posting about the piece and the artist in the next couple of days, And I’ll be starting the shoe this evening with the first update tomorrow (I don’t see the shoe taking longer than a week)

The shoes are for sale, if your interested just send me an email. If I don’t manage to work anything out then they will be on eBay.

Mighty Morpheon Mod’s

Metroid Prime

Metroid Prime

For a time Morpheon Mod’s custom consoles were pretty big news among gaming blogs. Unfortunately things have fallen silent on their website but it remains up as a tribute to their past work (The final post, dated December 2008 states a number of on going private projects).

Originally this was going to be a post on custom Wii’s but I soon realized that Morpheon Mods had enough for it’s own post (as well as 10 more I’m sure). Please see after the jump for an entire run down.

A Double Fine Production Indeed.

Robduenas

San Diego Comic Artist, Fusion Publishing’s Chief Illustrator, and fellow Tim Schafer fan Rob recently completed this amazing Psychonauts piece. Rob tells me that you will be able to catch his work, as well as a tribute to Tim Schafer in  PLAY’s May 09′ issue. Tim actually saw Rob’s work in an upcoming Death Jr. novel and gave him his blessing (Much like a scene out of the godfather I assume. Alas, perhaps if I were better at photoshop we would be looking at a Tim Schafer/ Don Vito Corleone mashup right now).

The equally impressive coloring on the piece was carried out by Diego Rodriguez – to see more from Rob & Diego please check out the upcoming Death Jr. Novel as well as Monstroids, an upcoming series created and written by Kevin Grevioux (Underworld). Artwork for which is available on DeviantArt now.

I wonder why LucasArts / Tim Schafer games are such an inspiration for this kind of thing? I myself am starting a pair of Grim Fandango converse, fond memories perhaps? Will the upcoming Brutal Legend have the same impact?

The Work of Orioto.

Sonic by Orioto

Sonic The Hedgehog.

I can only assume French artist Orioto and myself are roughly the same age as his work covers all the games that were big in my childhood, we have Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus, Mario, Metroid Prime, Ecco the Dolphin – all the classics are there.

I’m continuously impressed with what people can do with computers. I still flesh out my ideas old school pencil and paper style. for more of Orioto’s work please visit his DeviantArt page Here

Someone needs to get hold of SEGA, if you guys can’t leave poor Sonic alone, than THIS is how I need my Sonic remakes to look. Continue reading to see more of his work.

Metal Gear Solid : Portable Ops Plus

Metal Gear Solid : Portable Ops Plus

Let’s welcome in the weekend with the conclusion of the Jacob Patterson interview. In part 2 we talk more about the influence of video games on his work (Especially that of Hideo Kojima, the man and mind behind Metal Gear Solid) And how the blending of those two passions is taking him all the way to this years E3.

What size shoe next? You decide.

For the phoenix wright piece I took a guess at what size shoe to use. Luckily there appears to be some size 9′s out there. But I thought if I was buying another pair of shoes I would let you decide the size this time round. I can let you know that they will be purple hi-top converse. For those across the pond add 0.5 to the UK sizes to get the US size. UK 7.0 becomes US 7.5 and so on.

The poll will run here on KyozoKicks for a couple of days, then I’ll order the shoes in and can start at the beginning of next week. Hopefully I can make almost daily updates on those shoes and you can follow the progression from store bought to custom.

I welcome any questions you have as always.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance Dunks

Recently hitting over 4000 subscribers on YouTube, Jacob Patterson from WiggaTriggaTV was kind enough to donate some of his time to KyozoKicks. Over the course of the two part interview we get to discuss how he first got on the scene, the ease at which an artist can interact with their critics in 2009, projects from the past, present and future as well as life and art outside of customizing.
