KyozoKicks second shoe (Third if were counting the Noby Noby Shoe) Is complete! They took me longer than I initially expected as I had never done any form of font before, It wasn’t particuallarly hard, just more time consuming than anything. On the design is a picture of Manny Calavera enjoying a smoke and pondering Love. ‘Love? Love is for the living’ appears on the opposite shoe, for fans of the game this might ring a bell as it’s lifted from a conversation Manny and Sal have in Grim Fandango.
As always I’m happy to answer any questions you might have on the shoes through the comment section and like the Phoenix Wright shoes before them the are on sale right now [Link] Now Sold
A big thank you to Maliris-san who not only inspired the initial design but gave them her blessing, please pop along to her deviantArt page to see more of her work [link]

WOW, those look pretty awesome, hey I was wondering if you could tell me what materials you used to make that, like what type of ink etc. Because I wanted to start doing this as well. If yyou could tell me I would aprreciate it alot thanks.
Hey Blackout,
I actually use paints and a fine paint brush. The paints go under the name angelus leather paint, it’s not cheap for paint, and the pots are small but it goes a fairly long way and is the only thing I can hand on heart recommend. If there’s enough demand I’ll put together a tutorial, tip and tricks page that kind of thing.
Hope that helps.
Tonks
Absolutely fantastic and flawless, well done! I must say, I love Grim Fandango, Converse and purple so these would be perfect for me. If only!
…but they’re too big and I’m without cash
Great work on all three customs! I have been toying with the idea of doing some custom dunks or possibly converse but I am a little in the dark about the materials needed. I have actually heard about the leather paints you mentioned earlier and I was wondering if there are any special steps you need to take to ensure they stay on the shoe through normal wear and tear? Any sort of sealing step involved? Obviously they won’t be perfect after a year of wear, but I’d like to know that if I step in a puddle I won’t be left with a smear of paint and a good bit of money down the drain.
You gotta make more of these. I’d totally buy ‘em.
Hey Fizzle,
If you starts on a canvas shoe (Converse or slip on vans) you will only need the paints I mentioned and a paintbrush. Your kit will get bigger than that over time, but to just dive in and give it a go (the method I recommend!) That’s all you need. If your concerned start on a cheaper shoe, In the UK it’s really easy to buy copy-cat converse, that way it’s no drama if you mess up (with canvas shoes if you do mess up there’s generally not much you can do) This paint is hardcore stuff and that’s why I recommend it, Whilst you can buy sealant the general consensus is that is not needed on a canvas shoe and I agree.
I agree with gunsakimbo…make some in a UK 7 please
I always think it’s only guys who would be interested in this kind of thing so only do size 9+ but now I know that there are the girl gamers out there digging this stuff I’ll certainly do you girls (or children…or men with small feet I guess?) Justice with video game shoe in sub size 9!
Alrighty. Thanks so much. I’ll have to see if I can get a few ideas going and finally make my custom shoe dream a reality! Keep up the good work…I’ll be lurking here to check out future work for sure.
No worries, Keep me updated on how your doing. In fact if you get started just email me and I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have on the process.
Did you use some kind of writing utensil (like a pencil) first? Just curious…because well, I don’t have many just lying around and because I wanted to know how well they write on converse canvas?

Thanks!
Yep on things like the font especially, be aware that whilst it’s easier to get off than paint it’s still a pain to take off so consider the colour of the pencil. A light colour on light shoes, dark pencil on dark shoes.
Tonks, just seen these on Double Fine website. And they are awesome. The design is just beautiful.
Lemme tell yer, there are girl gamers out there who would kill for a pair of these shoes. Specifically size 7 1/2.
Jeni, Glad you like em! Yeah I saw them over on the Double fine website, how cool is that!?! Perhaps the man himself saw them. 100% a shoe for the girl gamers is coming this summer.
thanks for taking the time to comment!
Just spotted these on Kotaku, fantastic artwork brings back a wave of nostalgia for that game. I think a tutorial might be in order
Oh jeez. I would pay so much (not quite sure how much, exactly, but a LOT) for a pair of these.
Glad you like them Parsons! All my shoes are one off designs so I’ll never make the shame shoes twice (got to keep it interesting!) But if you are interested in a pair of customs get in touch and we can kick around some ideas. Thanks again! Tonks
If I’d known in time, I might have bid for these. Tonks, would you repair your sneakers (if possible)? If I bought a custom I would wear it all the time until it was breaking down.
Hey Jonah,
Thanks for your kind words and having the time to drop me a comment. As a rule I don’t do the same shoe twice, this is for a couple of reasons. I like each pair to be completely unique for the person wearing them, I understand that for most people this is a lot of money to spend on shoes and anything I can do to make it that much more special for them I will gladly do. Secondly I could find myself making the same pair over and over again – as this is a hobby (I make no real profit from shoes) I like to keep it interesting! That said, if you got in contact with me it would cost nothing extra to make a set of customs aimed solely at yourself, correct size, shoe colour (Purple isnt for everyone) and design are all approved by you! If you think you have some ideas drop me an email through the ‘contact me’ section of my site.
Thanks again (sorry for the long answer)
Tonks.
I don’t know why, but here in Sweden… everybody wears a pair of converse shoes. It’s everything from the classic ones to lupe fiasco-models. No matter if you’re a 6 year old girl or if you’re an old man… you’re supposed to wear converse. It’s just like that in Sweden. I own a pair of green converse, and that’s all I need at the moment. Without converse, there would be no me. Hahahah, take care!
Wow. o_O
Wish I had a pair of these.
Please e-mail me when I can buy a pair of these tennis shoes. Thanks.
Thats a very cool pair of Converse you got right there my friend!
They look very nice. I got a pair of Converse-shoes myself and I use it every month of the years. I must admit it gets a bit cold during the winter but hey, that’s what extra socks are for. Together with my new One Piece clothing I am zhe king with my epic outfit.
If you make another pair in size 10s I’ll buy them! Awesome Shoes! Very talented
Hey Denis!
I am available for commissions, so if you really want the Grim Fandango Converse in a size 10 – just get in touch!
